Never had a Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

Rabbi Melody will be offering an Adult B’nei Mitzvah program starting in October. This program will provide an intimate and supportive community for students to study liturgy, Hebrew, trope (Torah chanting), and Dvar Torah writing with our clergy. Close bonds form during this journey, which culminates with the empowering experience of reading from the Torah in our sanctuary.

Who is eligible to become an adult Bar or Bat Mitzvah?

Members who have not yet gone through the ritual of Bar or Bat Mitzvah are eligible. If you were not given the opportunity as a child, have converted to Judaism, or have a child/grandchild reaching b’nei Mitzvah age, this is a wonderful time to complete this mitzvah.

What are the requirements?

Academic Component: You must have already completed, or be enrolled in at least one of the following courses during the 2021-2022 school year: One full year of Text Study classes; either Weekly Torah Study, Our Prayers or Judaism for Our Time and the ability to read Hebrew. D’var Torah, Liturgy, Trope Component Students must attend two 3 hour class retreats and complete a series of bi-monthly learning sessions comprised of Hebrew and Trope practice, D'var Torah workshops, and liturgy and service preparation. Classes will begin in October, 2021 (exact dates and times TBD).

When and where is the ceremony?

Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 10:00 am

Does every student read from the Torah?

Yes.

Does every student give a D’var Torah?

No. Every student will write a D’var Torah but only one or two students will give a D’var Torah on behalf of the class.

How do I register?

Contact Rabbi Melody.

Deadline to register is Wednesday, June 1.

We must reach a minimum of 5 participants to offer this opportunity
